Personalized Healthbook Covers

Hey there!

It`s only a short entry today. A couple of weeks ago I've made some healthbook covers for the babies of two dear friends of mine. In spite of trying not to do so they've turned out boyish and girlish... But you shoudn't blame me - or don't you have certain associations when you are holding some fabrics in your hands?

Heute nur ein kurzer Eintrag. Vor ein paar Wochen habe ich für die Babies zweier Freundinnen U-Heft-Hüllen genäht. Und obwohl ich es eigentlich vermeiden wollte, sind sie doch sehr jungen- bzw. mädchenhaft geworden. Aber geht mich Euch nicht auch die Phantasie durch, wenn Ihr den ein oder anderen Stoff in Händen haltet? Ich kann mich offensichtlich nicht wirklich dagegen wehren.

Christmas Presents - Part 3

Hey there again!

Even if it is a little repitition of the last post I want to show you another toddlermade Christmas present. Of course you can make bigger ones, but these little paintings were perfect for the aproximate half an hour that Lucas keeps concentrated. After 30 or 45 minutes every project becomes kind of anarchistic, which is fun too, but not very helpful when you want to make nice Christmas presents ;-)

Auch wenn es sich um eine kleine thematische Wiederholung des letzten Posts handelt, möchte ich Euch gern ein weiteres Kleinkind-fähiges Selbstmach-Geschenk zeigen. Das Ganze geht auch in groß, allerdings waren diese kleinen Leinwände perfekt für Lucas derzeitiges Konzentrationsfenster von ca. 30 bis 45 Minuten. Danach geht jedes Projekt in ein anarchistisches Chaos über. - Auch lustig, allerdings der Absicht schöne Weihnachtsgeschenke zu basteln, wenig zuträglich ;-)

Christmas presents - Part 2

Ever looked for an easy toddler-suitable handmade present idea? Here is what I've made with Lucas a month ago. We've used air-drying clay, cookie cutters, styrofoam and acrylic paint. And 'cause I'm a little lazy today I'll better let the pictures speak for themselves. (Oh... and the cute little present tags are free printables from the very talented paper-artist Tina Kraus. Habt ihr auch schon mal nach einer Idee für selbstgemachte Geschenke gesucht, die ihr mit einem Kleinkind umsetzen könnt? Ich zeig Euch mal, was ich dieses Jahr mit Lucas gemacht hab. Ein bisschen lufttrocknende Modelliermasse, Keksausstecher, Styropor und Acrylfarbe - mehr braucht ihr nicht. 

Und weil ich heut ein bisschen schreibfaul bin, müsst Ihr Euch mit den Fotos begnügen.(Übrigens, die süßen kleinen Geschenkschildchen sind von der tollen Paperart-Künstlerin Tina Kraus. Besucht sie doch mal auf ihrem Blog faltmanufaktur und erfreut Euch an den schönen Sachen, die sie macht!)

 

Christmas presents - Part 1

Happy New Year everybody! 

I hope you've had great holidays and relaxed a little bit so that you are ready for action now.

My last post was on december 11th - nearly a month ago now. But there was a lot of crafting going on here. Fortunately I thought of making some pictures to show you. 

Here is the first of six posts I've prepared to show you what we've made.

These little fabric baskets were nice handmade gifts for my mother, mother in law and sister in law. 

I think they liked them, but to be honest, I thought it would be a quicker project than it was. To get a neat result you need to cut and sew carefully. So the preparation takes a lot of time.

Here are the tutorial pictures that hopefully will be self-evident. If not, don't hesitate to ask. To reinforce the basket I used "Vlieseline" which I had to iron on before sewing. I used it only on the outer basket.

Frohes neues Jahr Euch allen! 

Ich hoffe, Ihr hattet schöne, erholsame Feiertage und könnt nun voller Tatendrang in das neue Jahr starten. 

Mein letzter Post ist ja schon ein Weilchen her - ähem... vom 11. Dezember... Allerdings haben Lucas und ich wirklich viel gewerkelt und gebastelt und ich habe zur Abwechslung mal nicht vergessen ein paar Fotos für Euch zu machen. Ich habe mehrere Posts vorbereitet und möchte Euch als erstes die diesjährigen Weihnachtsgeschenke zeigen. Den ersten Teil zeige ich Euch heute. Für meine Mutter, Schwiegermutter und Schwägerin habe ich diese süßen Stoffkörbchen gemacht. Ich glaube sie kamen ganz gut an, aber ich habe echt gedacht, dass diese simplen Körbe zügiger zu nähen sind, als sie dann letztendlich waren. Das Zuschneiden, verstärken der Stoffe und ordentliche Nähen (was ja sonst nicht gerade oberste Priorität bei mir hat :-) ) hat ziemlich viel Zeit in Anspruch genommen. Vor allem die Vorbereitung des Korbbodens vor dem Nähen war etwas aufwendig. Aber ohne es zu stecken, hätte ich mich nicht getraut, es zu nähen. 

Ich hoffe, die Bilder der Anleitung sind selbserklärend. Wenn Ihr Fragen habt, meldet Euch. 

Zur Verstärkung des Korbes habe ich Vlieseline aufgebügelt. Nach einigem Ausprobieren, habe ich festgestellt, dass es klüger ist, den äußeren Korb zu verstärken. Fühlt sich am Ende besser an. 

So, viel Spaß bei der Anleitung und natürlich beim Nachnähen. Das Ergebnis ist echt gut. Ich werd mir auch noch ein paar nähen.

Advent Calendar

This year I had decided to make a crafted Advent Calendar for Lucas. But that was before I've realised that the last week of november would bring tons of work! It was nearly impossible to get any crafting done. Very frustrating.

So... again I had to craft stressed and joyless to get things done until december 1st. Every time this happens I swear that this would be the last... But there are things going on that you just can't plan. So... the only conclusion can be: Never craft with a deadline! But is this realistic? The other conclusion would be: Begin to craft early! - But... trust me... this is never going to happen with me.I'm afraid there's no solution to this dilemma.

But to cut a long story short. I've finished the calendar just in time and I think it's o.k. Although I thought that 24 packages would look more abundant. But no matter, Lucas is enjoying it and that's what I've made it for.

Dieses Jahr hatte ich mir in den Kopf gesetzt, einen selbstgebastelten Adventskalender für Lucas zu machen. Leider wusste ich da noch nicht, dass in der Woche vor dem 1. Dezember eine Menge Arbeit auf mich warten würde, die mich ständig vom Basteln abhielt. Überflüssig zu sagen, dass es (wieder einmal) zu stressvergiftetem Druck-Basteln gekommen ist. Jedes Mal sage ich mir: "...dass passiert Dir nicht noch mal...!" Aber leider passiert es in regelmäßigen Abständen. Irgendwie kommt es doch immer anders als man denkt. 

Dieses Mal habe ich es noch einmal geschafft. Der Kalender ist fertig geworden und sieht ganz annehmbar aus. Allerdings hatte ich gedacht, dass die Päckchen ein bisschen üppiger aussehen würden. Aber es sind 24! Ich hab sie gezählt.

Someone to watch over you...

I'm really thankful for all those birthdays of familymembers and friends which force me to get some crafting stuff done. I definitely work better with a deadline pressing me.
Yesterday was my sister-in-law's birthday and this time I've made a true girlish present for her. Something with no other purpose than to be beautiful and cute: I've tried out my first Tilda-Project - an angel.

hm, hm... may I present to you, Else, the heart and soul of every home ;-)

Schön, dass es diese Geburtstage gibt, die über's Jahr hinweg Anlässe zum Basteln bieten. Mit einer Deadline im Nacken lässt sich eben doch am besten arbeiten.
Dieses Mal war der Geburtstag meiner lieben Schwägerin die Quelle der Inspiration. Und es ist ein richtiges Mädchengeschenk geworden - so eins das keinen anderen Zweck erfüllt, als hübsch und süß zu sein :-) Ich habe mich zum ersten Mal an einem Tildaprojekt versucht - einem Engel.

hm, hm... darf ich vorstellen, Else, die gute Seele eines jeden Haushaltes ;-)

There it is... Advent!

This year I was really looking forward to it. Christmas seems so magic when you have a kid around! Although Lucas is only 10 months old he enjoys the illuminated city with all its twinkling lights. Friday started the Christmasmarket in our town and you could see his amazement as we where visiting it.
Here are some impressions of the market for you. I hope you can apreciate the atmosphere although these are low quality mobile pics.

And today's not only the first sunday of Advent but also my nieces' 9th birthday. And she wished for an Adventcalendar. So I started crafting and made a wood deer on which I hang all 24 presents (well, better to say 25 because she has one extra birthday present on it ;-) ).

It measures aproximately 1,00 x 0,80m and is made out of chipboard.

I saw the idea 10 years ago in a magazine, cut out the foto and stored it since this year when I finally got the chance to realize it. Therefore I made a pattern and copied it onto the chipboard, then I cut it out with a compass saw, screwed it toghether and painted it. At last I drilled a hook into the back of the deer and hang the presents on it.
